Nearly 39,000 refugees from the Middle East entered the U.S. in fiscal 2016[1] during the resettlement crisis. According to the report from The International Rescue Committee, these people are refugees, asylum-seekers, victims of human trafficking, and even survivors of torture. Thousands of people have been forced to flee violence and persecution each year and are welcomed by the United States into the safety and freedom of America. These individuals have survived against incredible odds[2]. Many of them often struggle with finding living arrangements and employment, all while battling culture shock, psychological distress, depression and despair.

LSI sees the need for this population and provide social supports during the resettlement since 2017 and continuously outreach these newcomers by:

  • providing volunteers from L.A. to assist on Language learning and job training
  • Providing family caring program with family visitation on a bi-weekly basis and navigate those in need families for social supports
  • promote cultural exchange and relationship building by coordinating festival activities, such as
    • Annual back-to-school backpack drive filled with school supplies
    • Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations with meals and cultural/festive programs
    • Family camps during school breaks

Vehicle fundraising for refugee families

We are now offering a vehicle fundraising program to assist  refugee families who are in need of transportation.

The average size of a Syrian refugee family is around 6-8. A common phenomenon is that many families own only one second-hand car for work, school,  the grocery store, and other activities.

During our visitations, we found families who have used cars that are unsafe and cannot pass a vehicle inspection. They have to give up the vehicle, yet do not have enough money to purchase another car.

Therefore, we are hoping to help these families by purchasing a used, reliable vehicle through this program. All candidate families will be evaluated by the executive board and qualified for all requirements. All purchased vehicles will be donated to those families who are in need by Luke Services International (LSI). LSI will register as a lienholder under all donated vehicles to prevent reselling for profit.

If you would like to participate in this program and make a change to help others' lives, please go to support. Memo: Vehicle fund for xxx family
